Henri Vieuxtemps (1820-1881), from Verviers, was one of the greatest violinists of the 19th century. Vieuxtemps began composing at a very early age: his principal teacher had also taught Schubert and Bruckner. These seven concertos form the backbone of the new project of the Queen Elisabeth College of Music: for the first time in recording history, a collection of all seven of the concertos will gather together seven young virtuosos from the same school.

Lorenzo Gatto has been elected Rising Star for the 2010-2011 season so he will be seen playing with Eliane Reyes (piano) on numerous stages around Europe : Paris (Cité de la Musique), Vienna (Musikverein), Athens (Megaron), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Cologne (Philharmonie), Gateshead (The Sage), Birmingham (Town Hall) are some of the cities that will welcome the duo. These represent unique opportunities for Lorenzo to make himself better known to the European public.

Lorenzo Gatto has been given the privilege of a resident post at the Center for Fine Arts (Palais des Beaux-Arts), Brussels, for the whole of the 2010-2011 season. He will perform on a number of occasions: 29th October 2010 with the Wallonia Chamber Orchestra (playing with Augustin Dumay), 30th January 2011 in the course of his Rising Star tour and also 29th April 2011 with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (playing with Yossif Ivanov).
