Georges Enesco, Bohuslav Martinů, Vasilije Mokranjac - Deconstructing the Wall [FUG 565]
Lorenzo Gatto (violin) and Miloš Popović (piano)
LISTEN NOW!
An exciting artistic journey at the heart of Europe, proposing 25 years of creation in the countries separated by an ideological wall from Western Europe. Three works going from the confirmation of a Romanian masterpiece to the discovery of a cry coming from Serbia, passing by a unknown jewel composed by a Czech in the US. This is what two young artists propose us. Lorenzo Gatto and Miloš Popović are the very convincing representatives of a new generation of performers, curious of new artistic horizons.

The box set contains a feast of orchestral music, with no fewer than four concertos. These include, of course, Tchaikovsky’s superb concerto as played by the first laureate, Ray Chen; the set also presents the Belgian violinist Lorenzo Gatto’s brilliant performance of Paganini’s First Concerto and Ilian Gârnet in Shostakovich’s First Concerto – all three accompanied by the National Orchestra of Belgium, conducted by Gilbert Varga. It also offers an opportunity to relive the purity of Kim Suyoen’s interpretation of Mozart’s Fourth Concerto in the semi-final, with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, conducted by Paul Goodwin.
All the emotion of the 2009 Competition can be rediscovered in this 3-CD box set.
